Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Aussie Oppa collects and uses information when you visit aussieoppa.com, leave a comment, contact us or choose to receive updates.

Who we are

Aussie Oppa is an independent technology blog based in Melbourne, Australia. You do not need to create an account or subscribe to read our articles or leave a comment. For privacy questions, use our Get in Touch form.

Comments and contact messages

When you leave a comment, we collect the details entered in the form, including your name, email address, comment and any optional website address. WordPress also records your IP address and browser user agent to help administer comments and identify spam. Your name and approved comment are public; your email address is not displayed publicly. Please avoid including private information in your comment.

We use Gravatar to display comment avatars. A hash derived from your email address may be sent to that service to check for a profile image. An associated avatar may appear publicly with your comment. See Automattic’s Privacy Policy.

Our Jetpack contact form collects your name, email address, subject and message so we can respond to enquiries, including business enquiries. Responses are stored in our website administration system and sent to our email inbox. Jetpack may also process technical information such as IP address and browser details to operate the form. Contact messages are not published as comments.

Optional email updates

The comment form offers optional subscriptions to new posts or follow-up comments through Jetpack. Subscribing is not required to comment. If you choose to subscribe, your email address and subscription preferences are processed by Automattic to deliver those updates. You can unsubscribe using the link in subscription emails. Sending a contact enquiry does not itself subscribe you to blog updates.

Cookies and website statistics

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. If you select the option to remember your details when commenting, WordPress saves your name, email and website in convenience cookies for up to one year. Administrative login cookies are also used for authorised site administrators.

We use Jetpack Stats to understand visits and improve our articles. Automattic processes visit information such as IP address, browser details, pages visited, referring website, timestamps and approximate country. For details of its processing and retention, see Jetpack Stats privacy information and Automattic’s Privacy Policy.

You can manage or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect some website features. Where an applicable consent interface is displayed, you can use it to manage the choices it offers.

Google AdSense and advertising

We have added Google AdSense code as part of setting up advertising on this website. This does not mean that advertisements are available on every page or that our site has been approved to display ads.

When Google advertising services operate on this site, Google and other third-party advertising vendors may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and other identifiers to deliver and measure advertising. Ads may be based on your previous visits to this website or other websites. Google’s advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to personalise advertising based on visits across the web.

You can manage personalised advertising through Google My Ad Center. You can also learn about participating advertising companies and their opt-out choices at YourAdChoices. Opting out of personalisation does not necessarily remove advertising.

Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services, Google’s Privacy Policy and information about Google’s advertising partners.

Service providers and international processing

Website hosting and delivery are provided by Hostinger. WordPress and Jetpack provide website, form, statistics and subscription features. Contact notifications are received through Gmail. These providers process information as necessary to deliver their services; information may be stored or processed outside Australia.

Provider information is available in Hostinger’s Privacy Policy, Automattic’s Privacy Policy and Google’s Privacy Policy. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect the site and its users.

External links and embedded content

Our articles link to other websites and may include embedded content such as videos. External websites have their own privacy practices. Embedded services may collect information, use cookies and recognise you if you are logged in to their service. Check the relevant provider’s policy before interacting with that content.

Retention and your choices

Comments and their metadata are generally retained while the comment remains on the site, including to recognise previously approved contributors. Contact messages may remain in our website records and email inbox for responding to and keeping a record of enquiries. Subscription information is retained to administer the subscription. Service providers apply their own retention practices to the data they process.

You can contact us to request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information we hold about you. We may need to verify the request before acting on it. Some information may need to be retained for security, administrative or legal reasons, and backup copies may persist until their normal replacement cycle.

Changes and contact

We will update this page when our services or privacy practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision. Please send questions or privacy requests through our Get in Touch form.
