Quick answer: AppleCare One Family is not currently available in Australia; Apple’s Family Sharing plan is currently US-only. In Australia, Apple offers AppleCare One Individual, which can cover up to three eligible products for A$29.99 per month, but those devices must be associated with the subscriber’s own Apple Account. It does not extend coverage to relatives’ separate Apple Accounts just because they belong to the same Family Sharing group.
That distinction matters if you searched for an AppleCare family plan after seeing Apple’s US announcement. Here is what the Australian plan actually covers, how claims and service fees work, and what families here can do instead.
Is AppleCare One Family available in Australia?
No. Apple’s support information says AppleCare One Family is available only in the United States, and the subscriber needs a US Apple Account. Apple’s Australian AppleCare page confirms that an Australian AppleCare One plan can cover devices on the subscriber’s Apple Account, not devices belonging to other family members’ accounts.
AppleCare One Family is different from ordinary Family Sharing. In the US, the Family plan can cover eligible devices belonging to up to six people in one Family Sharing group. The Australian AppleCare One plan is an individual subscription: it groups several of your own devices under one bill. Sharing Apple Music, iCloud+ or other Apple services with a family does not automatically share device protection.

What does AppleCare One cover in Australia?
AppleCare One combines protection for multiple eligible Apple products under one monthly plan. The Australian plan starts at A$29.99 per month for up to three products. You can add another eligible product for A$8.99 per month per device. You choose which devices to enrol and can manage, swap or remove them in Settings. Removing a device ends its cover straight away.
For each enrolled product, AppleCare One includes AppleCare+ benefits such as priority access to Apple support and repair for eligible accidental damage. Repairs are not automatically free: a service fee applies to each repair or replacement claim. Apple’s current Australian fee table lists, for example, A$45 for eligible iPhone outer-display or back-glass damage, A$149 for other iPhone accidental damage, and A$229 for an iPhone theft or loss claim. Fees vary by product and damage type, so check the current fee for the exact model before making a decision.
AppleCare One also includes theft and loss protection for eligible iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch models. Apple lists a combined limit of three theft or loss claims per year for an Individual plan. This is a shared annual limit across the plan, not three claims for every covered device. A deductible applies to each approved theft or loss claim. AirPods, Macs and other products do not gain theft-and-loss protection from this feature.
Which family devices can an Australian plan cover?
The test is the Apple Account, not the household. If your iPhone, iPad and Mac are associated with your Apple Account, they may be eligible for your AppleCare One Individual plan. Your partner’s iPhone under their separate Apple Account does not become covered simply because you both use Family Sharing.
Apple says devices must meet eligibility rules. A device generally needs to be less than four years old and in good condition; headphones must be less than one year old. Apple may ask you to run a diagnostic check or have the product inspected. Country of purchase, existing coverage, an active repair, or a device marked as lost can also affect eligibility. For a newly purchased product in Australia, Apple says a four-day waiting period applies before enrolling in AppleCare One.
How is the US AppleCare One Family plan different?
Apple’s US plan costs US$49.99 per month and covers eligible Apple products for up to six people in a Family Sharing group. Apple says current eligible devices and new purchases can be added without a separate per-device fee. The same core types of AppleCare+ protection apply, including accidental-damage repairs and theft-and-loss cover for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, subject to terms, claim limits and service fees.
That US price is not an Australian price or a way to buy the plan through an Australian account. Apple’s support page says a US Apple Account is required. Do not change your account region or share someone else’s account just to try to enrol: account-region changes can affect payment methods, subscriptions and purchases, and they do not make an Australian Family plan available.
What can Australian families do instead?
If each person uses their own Apple Account, compare AppleCare+ for each person’s most expensive or frequently carried device. A family may choose cover for phones but skip lower-cost accessories, or insure only the devices that would be expensive to repair or replace. Compare the total monthly or annual premiums with the relevant service fees and the cost of replacing a device yourself.

If several products genuinely belong to one person and are linked to that person’s Apple Account, AppleCare One may be worth comparing with separate plans. The A$29.99 starting price is not automatically cheaper for every household: the value depends on the devices, how many are enrolled, whether theft-and-loss cover matters, and how likely you are to make a claim. Check the exact device list and price shown in Settings before subscribing.
AppleCare is not the same as the standard warranty
AppleCare One is an optional service and protection plan. It sits alongside Apple’s limited warranty and the rights consumers automatically receive under Australian Consumer Law. Those consumer guarantees are not removed when a manufacturer’s warranty ends, and a business cannot require you to buy an extended warranty to keep those rights.
Consumer guarantees are not the same as accidental-damage insurance. A drop, spill or theft is not automatically a product fault, so AppleCare can add protection for events that ordinary warranty and consumer-guarantee remedies may not cover. If a product develops a fault, however, do not assume AppleCare is your only route: the Australian Consumer Law may still provide remedies depending on the fault, product and circumstances.
Is AppleCare One worth it for an Australian family?
If you mean one plan that covers everyone’s separate devices through Family Sharing, the answer is not in Australia at the moment. AppleCare One Family is currently US-only. Australia’s A$29.99 plan is useful for one person with several eligible devices on the same Apple Account, with A$8.99 monthly add-ons for additional products.
For a household, price each person’s AppleCare+ separately and focus on the devices where a repair or replacement would cause the biggest financial hit. If Apple later brings AppleCare One Family to Australia, compare its monthly price, claim limits and device eligibility against that household total. Until then, the US family-plan rules should not be assumed to apply here.
If a repair or replacement means moving to another phone, use our new iPhone transfer checklist before erasing the old device. Check your backup and account access before handing it over for service.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Can I add my partner’s iPhone to my AppleCare One plan in Australia?
Not if it is associated with your partner’s separate Apple Account. Australian AppleCare One covers eligible products associated with the subscriber’s own Apple Account. Being in the same Family Sharing group is not enough.
Q. How many devices does AppleCare One cover?
The Australian Individual plan starts with up to three eligible products for A$29.99 per month. Additional eligible products cost A$8.99 per month each. You must select devices and meet Apple’s eligibility requirements.
Q. Does AppleCare One make every repair free?
No. Eligible accidental-damage repairs are covered subject to a service fee for each claim. Theft and loss claims also have a deductible and annual limits. Battery service and other benefits have their own eligibility conditions.
Q. Does AppleCare replace Australian Consumer Law rights?
No. Apple says AppleCare is separate from and additional to rights under Australian Consumer Law. Consumer guarantees may provide remedies for faults, while AppleCare adds plan benefits such as accidental-damage protection and priority support.
